 Buckinghamshire Centenary Camp Minimize

Bucks County Centenary Camp

County Show Ground

 Aylesbury

25 –  28 May 2007

The Centenary Camps are part of the join-in-Centenary Celebrations happening throughout 2007 and is a chance for everybody in Scouting in the UK to join together simultaneously in an adventurous Centenary celebration.

This is a chance for every youth Member across All the five sections, and every adult involved, whether a Leader, a helper, a member of the Scout Fellowship or supporters who help make Scouting happen for our young people and young adults, to be camping, joining together in solidarity to celebrate one hundred years of Scouting and to look toward the future.

The Centenary Camps activity is also directly linked into the Join-in Centenary Programme and is one of four key activities for which a badge can be awarded to all those who take part(young or old) or support the activity, whether before, during or after the event.  The badge forms part of the unique Join-in-Centenary set that can be worn during the Centenary celebrations, either on the uniform sleeve or alternatively, on the back of the special 2007 scarf that is available.

Location of the County Showground

The show ground is the Aylesbury to Buckingham Road (A413) near the village of Weedon.  The site is enormous and will take all the campers, activities, and long stay cars.  Day visitors will be able to park in the adjacent field.

Other activities are in the pipeline and these will be added to this web page and future newsletters

I addition will be asking groups to provide an activity on either Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon or Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.  This will hopefully give those running the activities some free time to participate.

Work Shops

Do you have a skill that you would like to pass on to another colony, pack troop or section?  We will be making a marquee available throughout the weekend so that you can learn another skill to take back to your section.

Leaders Chill Out Area

Do you sometimes think at camp that you want a bit of unwind time?  We hope to provide that with a leader/helpers chill out area.

Cost

Campers

Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts        £25

Scout Network                                          £10

Leaders & other adults                            £10

Day Visitors

Beavers & other youth members            £10

Leaders & Helpers                                   £5

This cost includes all the activities and entertainment.  It does not include food and transport.

Beavers

Beaver Colonies will be invited to take part in the camp as Day Visitors on either Saturday or Sunday.  When booking you will be asked to state a preference for which day you would like to visit.  If that day is oversubscribed you will be asked to visit on the other day.  Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Beavers may camp for the weekend but, in accordance with POR, they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian and must sleep in the same tent as their parent/guardian.  The cost of camping for the weekend will be £25.

What happens next?

We would like groups to give an indication of how many members of each section they will be bringing to the camp by mid December.  We appreciate that this it is difficult to pin people down so far in advance, but this will help us establish how much camping space we will need to allocate for each District.  It will also ensure that we have enough activities, toilets and refuse facilities.

Payment Schedule

            50% payment                                               28th February 2007

            50% payment                                               30th April 2007

How you can help….

Do you know the oldest person to have ever been in the Scout Movement in the County?

We want to know who they are and to include them in the opening ceremony! This camp is all about Scouting Through Time and we want to include everyone from the oldest to the youngest!  So far we have identified someone who is 84 years old.  Can you do better or older?

Timeline

Over the camp we will be putting together a Timeline of major events in Scouting’s history and particularly in Bucks.  Dig out your old group records and find out when your group started so you can include yourselves on the Timeline.

Campfire

We hope to have a celebrity to lead us in our centenary campfire, but will not know until February if he is available.  So, in good Scouting Spirit we need to Be Prepared in case he can’t make it, so do you know someone who will relish the chance to run the biggest campfire Bucks has ever seen?

Giant Scarf!

We want to make a giant scarf which includes the scarf of every Scout Group in the County.  At the camp it is intended to be used as a backdrop for the stage.  We are also going to make one for each District, which includes scarves from every group in the District.

In order to be able to do this in time for the camp we would appreciate it if every group in the County(even those not intending to support the Centenary Camp) could send 2 of their adult scarves to Nick Poole at 11 Northdown Road, Chalfont St Peter, Bucks SL9 0LG by the end of December.  If you have old scarves from your group or closed groups then send these along as well.  Please make sure every scarf has a liable pinned to it saying which Group and District it is from.

Finally, and most importantly

This is your Camp, and by taking part in it you will be joining 500,000 Scouts across the UK on the same day to celebrate the Centenary of Scouting by doing what Scouts love best, FUN AND ADVENTURE.
